Health... Vitality... Balance...
What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the use of concentrated extracts from plant material. The plant essences are known as essential oils and are blended with a carrier oil for massage, but can also be mixed into other mediums to treat specific health conditions.

Aromatic plants and oils have been used for thousands of years as incense, perfumes and cosmetics and for their medical applications. Some people think that aromatherapy is just a relaxing massage with nice smelling oils. Whilst this is partly true, aromatherapy can offer so much more.

This is not a beauty treatment and I do not use ready blended oils with names such as “uplifting” or “rejuvinating”. It is a prescriptive treatment as I blend my own oils to suit your individual needs.

Aromatherapy can help to achieve and maintain balance to the mind, body and spirit.

Physical and mental wellbeing

Therapeutic massage is the main method used by professional aromatherapists

Massage:

  • improves the circulation
  • eases muscular aches and pains
  • helps with lymphatic drainage
  • promotes muscle tone
  • stimulates the immune system
  • strengthens resistance to disease
  • reduces stress levels
  • helps combat insomnia
However, when the general benefits of massage are combined with the effect of specific essential oils, the healing dynamics are so much greater.

Aromatherapy is not just massage and not just for women. Men benefit enormously from aromatherapy treatments and some herb oils, for example marjoram and rosemary, or cedarwood are particularly well suited to male clients.

How can I help you?

After an initial consultation I will carefully select and blend 3 essential oils to benefit your individual needs, psychologically on the mind, as well as physiologically on the body’s systems. Each treatment is tailored to your needs.

Regular aromatherapy massage treats deep seated tension by releasing serotonin and endorphins into the bloodstream leaving the body feeling soothed and the spirit calm.

Natural healing

Essential oils can be blended into carrier oils, creams and gels for use at home.

Essential oils are very powerful and each oil has its own therapeutic property which can be used in a variety of ways to treat the body’s systems. For instance, did you know that myrrh is a powerful anti-fungal oil and can be used to treat nail infections; lavender has a high alcohol content which cools the skin quickly, so is extremely effective for burns; the spice oils are warming and are very effective on arthritic joints; clary sage provides an effective relief from abdomen and lower back spasm during menstruation; some oils are analgesics so provide natural pain relief; and some oils are decongestants so ease the symptoms of colds and flu.

However, just because the oils are natural it does not mean that they can be used without due care and attention. I use the oils in a number of ways and at different strengths, depending on what I am treating.

Due to the concentrated nature of the essential oils it is important to discuss your medical history with me. Certain health conditions may either be unsuitable for treatment, or the treatment may need to be adjusted.
